Four of Pentacles - feeling safe

For today I've drawn the Four Of Pentacles from The Hidden Realm Tarot. This is the third card in a row I pull form this deck and I rather like the feeling of flow this is giving me.
This Four of Pentacles has a different depiction than we are used to see on this card. No miser, no greediness, but instead a badger guarding her young. They are sleeping safe in the burrow their mother has dug out for them in the earth. The Earth who is a Mother for us all. She has chosen a place nearby the standing stones. Did she feel the energy radiating from these old and special place? Who knows. She is watching her litter carefully for there is nothing more precious in the world to her.
Without a doubt I can most easily identify with  mother Badger but sometimes I yearn for the comforting security her litter is experiencing in their burrow and for somebody who looks after me….
After some precarious times and more to come (dental issues) it is good to pause, rest and re-energize while She is watching over us.

“I am safe; all is well”

  1. That was a lovely reading. You help me to really feel that card. Of course, they will have to leave that 'womb' eventually and do what she is doing. I like that idea of protecting our 'stuff', in the way that the Emperor would protect his kingdom.

    1. Yes otherwise they will suffocate an die and the burrow will become their grave.
It is more like being a steward than an owner.

  2. I too like this feeling of protection for the Four of Pents (rather than just portraying a miserly person.) I think it is important to protect our time, energy and health from people and situations that would "spend" them all without a thought. I am awed by the beautiful artwork in this deck once again.

    1. Yes the artwork is amazing. Julia Jeffrey is so talented!
Protecting time and energy is so important. Especially when you are getting older You have to be more attentive where you want to put your energy and time

    1. Perhaps you've read my review of this deck. And how I had to send it back to the store because I had no feeling for it at all. And I was so disappointed because I loved the artwork. This time around is so different. The characters seem so much more alive. The book is very good. It tells you the story of each card in a dreamy kind of way and it also describes the divinitory meaning of each card. You just have to think a little bit out of the box with this deck. Perhaps that was to great a hurdle for me the first time :D

  6. I love this interpretation Ellen! Increasingly I find myself turning away from the 'greedy' reading of this card and instead thinking that it often suggests a time for self-protection, a time to guard your resources a little more closely. I love this idea of protecting your loved ones too. Beautiful :)

    1. Hi Beth. Yes the greedy part is sometimes too one sided in my point a view.
I am glad you liked my take on it :
      Thanks for stopping by :)

  7. This is a very comforting, safe card image. With the standing stones in the background it brings to mind the 4 of Stones from the Wildwood, with the fawn curled up under the protection of a very similar standing stone structure. That also has a very comforting feel to it. I don't have this deck, and wasn't sure about how I might like it, given the many portraits, but it's nice to see how you're working with it, and how much life it has :)

    1. It sure does resemble the 4 of stones :D (I love that card!)
This time around this deck really got to me. it is almost as if the characters come to life in a reading and tell me their story. So different from my first encounter in September last year

    2. Oh that's right - didn't you send it back because you didn't really like it that much? But then you reordered it! How is the card stock? I'm always hesitant to order Llewellyn decks because I find the card stock to be so thin. Do you find that with this deck?

    3. I like the cardstock. it is not that thin. I have the Shadowscapes and the Anna K from Llewellyn and I think their quality is good enough. I like the mat finish and they shuffle great. I guess it always depends on your personal preference.
