Runes, Druidcraft Tarot, and Celtic Lenormand in one reading

Today I’ve done what I’ve been dreaming of ever since I've heard that Will Worthington was doing the artwork for the Celtic Lenormand by Chloe McCracken: Combining this deck with the Druidcraft Tarot from the same artist. And of course I had to include my beloved Runes. Recently I've found a second hand wooden set of Runes on the online thrift store in the Netherlands. I thought it would be nice to combine them with these two decks.
I pulled one rune for the general energy of the day: Ingwaz. This is the rune of fertility. Not so much the creative fiery action but more the peaceful slumber afterwards. The quietness of the sown land; patiently waiting for the first sprouts to appear. This requires a harmonious balance and inner piece.
Very promising indeed but how do I really feel about all this? This answer was given to me by the Ten of Wands from The Druidcraft Tarot: “Not so good. So much to do, so many responsibilities, no time to rest or to be quiet. Always busy.”  Mind you, this is about feelings; not about the actual situation. Often our minds are so busy and chaotic it seems like we have too much going on and so little time to accomplish everything. This feeling can be so overwhelming, we have to fight the urge to throw away all the wands from our back, sit down and do nothing at all.
Although this last option can be very  tempting it is not the most healthy thing to do. So what can we do now in order to feel the peacefulness of Ingwaz and heal our emotional overload?
I pulled two cards from the Celtic Lenormand and they couldn’t have been more fitting: Child + Heart.
We could try to engage in one thing with the openness and trust of a child. Putting in all our love and devotion to this task or project and really feel connected to what we are doing.
Yes, this is a difficult one, when you feel like the Ten of Wands. But when you look at this little boy playing with his boat in the trough, you can almost feel how his heart is traveling  to the ocean where one day he will sail his own ship to far away shores. This intent is patiently waiting, gently growing stronger….. this too is Ingwaz .

So for today I will do one thing, choose one Wand and I will love what I do with all my heart. This way I will experience inner peace, patience and quietness.

  1. Absolutely beautiful, Ellen! I love how each form of divination built on the last, answering the questions raised in such a supportive and understanding way :) Hope you found and enjoyed that one wand!

    1. Thank you Chloe. It all flowed so effortless. I love this combination of deck. Will's Oracle decks will also be a good addition to the mix :)
I've been trying to draw with my new pens which is not as easy as I thought it would be but working with them is indeed creating that gentle quietness

    2. I hope we'll see some of the fruits of your labours :) I've been doing some French knitting, which is rather meditative. Especially as I've been trying to chant silently while doing it, as it's for a witchy project :D

    3. I hope you will show it to us when it is finished. I like the meditative aspect of knitting too. Al my tarot bags do have some positive intent knitted into them and looking at my tarot drawer that's a lot of intent :D. Somewhere along the way I've stopped chanting. Don;t know why really.
I might post some of my drawing if I feel they are post worthy

  2. Fantastic pairing Ellen - all the greens plus the wooden rune is lovely. Ah, I can so relate to having so much I need to do added to what I want to do, and feeling so overwhelmed I just sit. "Pick one wand" and get moving is good advice. :) The two Celtic cards are seamless in their combined meaning!

    1. Thanks Bev! It felt so good to work with all three systems together. and then to pull such well matched cards/rune was even more fun.:)
I will definitely do this more often!

  3. wonderful pairing, all work and no play morphing into some play time to balance. I have Chloe's deck at my elbow but haven't used it on the blog yet as lenormand is a blank page to me :) As I do each day, when it's turn comes I'll make it up as I go along~

    1. Thank you Sharyn. I've seen you read with another Lenormand deck some time ago and it made perfectly sens to me. I know Bev uses it as an oracle too instead of reading it as "it is supposed to be read" :)
So give it a go and let the beautiful pictures speak for themselves! :)

    2. I'm with Ellen on this one, Sharyn. Although I read Lenormand pretty traditionally, I really enjoyed your Lenormand interpretations. The cards are just there to help you express your intuition and insights anyway! :)

  4. Focus, intent and mindfulness, always daily challenges for me. Great post Ellen. I love the card and Rune combination very much.
Not allowing oneself to feel overwhelmed by thoughts that too often are negative, is another challenge. Worry is such a useless thing, it simply causes me to feel more stress as I am breathing more energy and life into the worry instead of mindfulness. Stinks!

    1. These are challenges for everyone my friend. Acknowledging this is already a huge step. Being aware of the worrying it the only way to stop it. Yesterday I've been cycling. Nothing else could stop the brain train.
I love using my runes too. when I combine them with the tarot they reveal even more layers :)

    2. Yup a good description, the brain train! Goin' to get off next stop! Glad to read you post today!

  5. I love your combination readings. They always work out so well and give such great messages. This one in particular is so relate-able to me. I should stop and remember to act on one thing at at time. Multi-tasking always creates so much unneeded stress and yet I do it all the time. I'm glad to hear you were able to take a step back and choose a single wand to work with.

(I don't own any Will Worthington illustrated decks yet...but they are on my wishlist. His artwork is so gorgeous and I am oddly comforted when looking at it...it feels like home)

    1. His decks feel like home for me too. The Celts lived close to where I live nowadays so I can relate very easy to images. I love the trees and plants and animals in his artwork. I would highly recommend buying the Celtic Lenormand and the Druidcraft Tarot. You won;t regret it!!!

    2. I agree his nature scenes are so wonderful. I've been stuck between the Druidcraft and the Wildwood tarot ever since my interest in tarot started. I just can't figure out which one is for me. I like the fact that the Druidcraft is larger (don't like the borders though...and I wouldn't trust myself to trim them)...but I feel a stronger pull to the artwork in the Wildwood, despite them being the same artist. Every time I think I'm sure about one of them I start second-guessing again. *laughs*

    3. I have both decks. The first one was the Druidcraft and after the Wildwood was published it took me several years to decide this deck was for me too. I love them both. The energy of the Wildwood is more primal. I can imagine how hard it is when you have to choose. But do you have to choose???

    4. Ah...that is the question. A good one too...Why must it be one or the other? I guess the only reason why I feel the need to limit myself to one is because I don't want to go overboard with my collecting. And that is so easy to do. ha ha ha. I have a tendency to guilt trip myself whenever I buy myself fun things. XD

    5. Then buying them both would be a good therapy for this " guilt trip" thing
It is your choice but whatever you chose you wont regret it because they are both stunning and very different decks to read with; a perfect addition to you collection. :)

    6. Ha ha. I'm sure I'll know when the time is right. Most of the time it's just a gut feeling when I buy a deck. If I can't decide it's probably because I'm not ready for them yet. But I know one or both will end up in the collection eventually! :D

  7. Wonderful post Ellen! Its awesome how well these three tools worked together so seamlessly! I love the idea of combining different systems of divination in a single reading.

    1. Thanks Sarah! They all have there own way of interpreting a situation and that is the reason why they are complimenting eachother so well: Over all the tarot is often more psychological and the lenormand more practical. And the Runes are a bit like road signs for me.

  8. I love reading the way you explore the relationship between each card/rune, and how it relates to your life. This whole post has a lovely message of "stop and smell the roses." Easier said than done, but so worth being mindful of.

    1. "Stop and smell the Roses"that should be my life motto. :D
Reading like this is kind of adding apples, pears and strawberries in one delicious pie
