Three card daily spread with the Shadowscapes Tarot

For today I want do a three card daily spread with The Shadowscapes Tarot. This deck is currently almost the only tarot deck I work with. Each time I pull my cards from this deck, I am amazed by how the message it conveyed with such a gentle and kind energy. Even the more difficult subjects, although never avoided, are so cautiously approached.

For my spread the positions are as follows:

1 The energy of the day – Three of Cups.

Many of you know that this is the card which for me resembles me and my girls: How we interact, how we laugh and cry together and yes often quarrel together too. But we always return to our small circle of love. Each of us bringing a filled cup to the brim of our own special flavored drink and mixing it together to something quite delicious and extraordinary.

But  S doesn’t live here anymore. Of course I do think about her often but seeing this card made it a bit sour. And then this morning she called me to invite me to have coffee together at her place which was good and we talked and laughed as usual. Both my girls live in my heart so where ever I am we will always be the Three of Cups.

2 The challenge of the day – Nine of Wands

This cards challenges me to not to expect the worst. Of course there is nothing wrong to have some strength in reserve but for me today there is no need to be extra vigilant. And worrying about what might happen only drains me from the strength I do have.

3 Gift of today –Knight of Sword

My gift is to be able to speak my mind if necessary and to know when to be silent. Since he is my gift I interpret him more positively than usual. So no conflicts today!

The Knight of Arrows – Hawk tempered by The Laume

Lately I've been rather enchanted by the Wildwood tarot, so for today another draw from this gorgeous deck. It is the Knight of Arrows – Hawk. Although a hawk can be very aggressive, today his vigilance stands out to me. Yesterdays post was all about being generous with love and kindness but in the meantime being aware of my own pitfall: giving too much. This knight is an energy which can help me to look after myself in this process. He has an enormous overview of the situation. He can detach himself by watching everything from a great distance and if necessary he can strike without a single doubt because he is so certain about himself. It can be a good thing for me to mirror some of his fearlessness, confidence and self awareness. He will be my inner knight in shining armor, My defender.

Because this was quite a fierce card I thought, lets pull one from the Faeries’ oracle to soften it up and I've got, don’t laugh, The Laume. Her keywords are: Unconditional Giving and Unconditional Loving. It is a good thing to stop focusing on the self once in a while and start giving to others without expecting anything in return. The Universe has a way a keeping the balance so we don’t have to worry about that. This is exactly the same message as I have written in yesterday’s post. And then my eldest called from work, while I was writing this post, to ask me if I could buy some printing paper and bring it to her. “Of course” I said. “no trouble at all”. I took my bike and did what she had asked me. In return I got the biggest smile, some  sunshine, singing birds and so much more. J

PS. When I was upstairs in my room. I saw the Queen of Rainbows on my altar; Flowering. She is my embrace card for this month And now these messages about being generous with love and kindness make so much more sense…

A three card spread about communication skills

For today I've drawn three cards. First I'll read the center card and then the two adjacent cards which are explaining or modifying the center card.

The center card is the Three of Pentacles and usually I read this as my creativity card but today the three debating persons are standing out more to me. Two people are standing on the side and sharing their knowledge and ideas with the craftsman. I have the feeling they want to defend their point of view without acknowledging the practical skills of the artist

Universal Waite Tarot

In Holland we have a saying which, when translated, literally says: "The best helmsmen stand on shore" and it is the equivalent of "Bachelors' wives and maidens' children are well taught." Only the Dutch saying  is probable slightly more applicable to this card.

I read the Three of Pentacles today as the Springtime gardening discussions between M. and me. M. is doing the hard work  and I have an advantage in experience. She wants to be responsible for the whole garden but I want to have some say in it too. And to be honest we don’t always agree about everything.

I see both the sword cards as  the two extremes in how we might convey our opinions. The Eight of Swords is about a  having a victim attitude, being a pushover and taking no responsibility  for what is happening and the Knight of Swords is quite the opposite: everything has to go his way or he can be become very annoyed at the least. The eight of swords attitude mostly happens when one of us doesn’t get her way (childish, I know J).

As always it is usually for the best if we to try to search for the middle way. In that way we can both have our say and learn from each other’s point a view.
