King of Cups – Listening to the deep waters

For today I've drawn the King of Cups from the Mary El Tarot.  For me he is the master healer, the empath, He feels deeply without drowning in his own or other’s emotional tidal waves.
In the picture we see our king floating in the water between blue lotus flowers. He is holding his scepter, signifying he is Poseidon the God of the Ocean.
The king of Cups is master over the deep realm of our unconsciousness, of dreams and imagination.
It seems like there is not much going on in this depiction but although the surface may look calm and peaceful, we never can quite  grasp what is lurking in the undercurrent. Al we can do is trying to be still and listen,  like this king is doing

I've picked up  my meditation practice (Four days in a row J) This will help me to be still and listen to what is going on in the deep waters of my soul.  I do hope I can keep it up and try to see it as a gift to myself instead of a chore.

  1. This is one of my favorite cards in this deck. I love how the king is so comfortable and relaxed in his element, yet he isn't submerged but floating on top of the water. Now that I think about it, maybe that is how he stays so composed in emotionally fraught situations - he knows how to stay relaxed! :) Speaking of being relaxed, good job on sticking with the meditation!

    1. He is indeed a welcome guide for these last few days, teaching me not to get worked up about things too much
Meditation is like riding a bike you don't forget how to ride it but you do have to get in shape again :D

    1. Thanks you so much Kerry. It is such a wonderful experience doing this just for me. Now I wonder why I have put it off for so long :)

  3. Proud of you Ellen, beginning your meditation practice again. It's like anything that's good for us,we seem to have difficulty doing for ourselves and the hardest part is getting started. I was always good at starting things, great at finishing but all the stuff in between, I sucked and l that was the part I just didn't get!

I love this card! Hugs and blessings to you Ellen.

    1. Thanks you Catherine. I am also happy with it. I have been meditating six times in row now and I love it. Not only the meditation itself but also the fact I am doing it just for me:)
Hugs to you my dear fiend

  4. Interesting for me to see these cards here with your commentary, Ellen! I have continued to keep looking at this deck online. So far, I can not tell if they are for me or not, so it is of much use to see you using them and peeling back meaning each day :)

    1. I've been putting of buying this deck for along time too. When I got it I was immediately in love with he artwork and a bit scary to a start working with it. Up until now each card has given me such a fitting message. I just love this deck !!

  5. I have a couple of reservations. I am no stranger to breaking away from tradition and systems but at the moment, I am using the RWS system on my blog and in courses so don't want to stray to far from the path at the moment. I can notice some recognisable tradition in this deck but can see that it really is its own beast (which I respect and like). I've heard and read bad responses to the book, which make me wonder if I would be opening a can of worms in buying it. The New Orleans Voodoo Tarot was like that. I loved the style of art but the accompanying book confused me more than if there hadn't have been one. I never really found out what some of those cards meant.

But I agree with how beautiful the artwork is. It definitely keeps getting me to come back and have another look at it.

    1. If I don't like what I read I skip it. Sometimes the mythology or symbolism is too far fetched for my interpretation for the day. One day I will return to the card and then perhaps the book has more to offer me. Maybe the book has flaws so in case of doubt, you can always cross reference it to an online source. and adjust it :)
