Knight of Cups - Searching, searching forever searching

For today I’ve drawn the Knight of Cups from the Original Rider Waite Tarot. The ultimate seeker for emotional and spiritual fulfillment; for Love.
It feels like he has his destiny, his holy grail in sight. He is no longer “lost in the woods”. The landscape is open and inviting. The only thing what prevents him from going on is a small river. His horse lifts his leg willing to cross it but the knight hesitates. I wonder why. The stream is obviously shallow. The knight looks at his cup. Maybe he is fearful of finding his grail because then the quest is over and he doesn’t know what to do next.

So what is waiting for him on the other side of the river. What is he longing for? And I drew The Empress. If he only knew he would be held in her arms. He would be nurtured and cared for because She has been waiting for him all this time. Yes if he only knew he would spur his horse and jump over the stream because She is where he needs to be and from Her many paths will come within sight

  1. These two cards made me think about something Sharyn said on her blog the other day. Sometimes the search for what we love, for our passion is more exciting than the achieving the goal. Because once we have it, the Empress requires us to do something with it! That is a bit nerve-wracking just thinking about it. Yet I'm sure she has a plan to keep things interesting. :)

    1. I am sure too, I'll bet it is something exciting, different ,creative and so scary....
      But I think when we trust She has our back we can do anything we set out mind to :)

  2. I've come to the conclusion that I am no longer so much on that search for passion, inspiration etc. If I do the work and put in the effort, that comes, and something good appears.Some times the forest keeps us from seeing the trees.

    I once heard it said that the definition of an alcoholic is some one who always has to have something to look forward too. I'm not sure that's always a negative thing, but I do want and need to be content with where I find myself, and not to fear failure or success. Easier said than done, but I keep practicing!.

    1. I agree we have to find our happiness and fulfillment in the present moment but I had the feeling the knight was apprehensive to cross the river and then he would miss meeting the Empress.
      For me it is very important to have a connection with God(dess) and to walk my path with trust an faith

  4. Your post reminds me of this poem I read today by Robert Frost.

    Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
    And sorry I could not travel both
    And be one traveler, long I stood
    And looked down one as far as I could
    To where it bent in the undergrowth;

    Then took the other, as just as fair,
    And having perhaps the better claim,
    Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
    Though as for that the passing there
    Had worn them really about the same,

    And both that morning equally lay
    In leaves no step had trodden black.
    Oh, I kept the first for another day!
    Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
    I doubted if I should ever come back.

    I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
    Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
    I took the one less traveled by,
    And that has made all the difference.

    If you choose to take another path and not cross the river, there will always be other paths or we might decide to try to cross that river again in the future.

    2. You're welcome Ellen. It's one of my favourite's.

      My late husband Bill was a deep thinker and a writer and introduced me to Henry David Thoreau's poetry and I have the hanging he bought for me so many years ago, which I so treasure, and hold close to my heart.

      If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.

  5. This pairing reminds me of a beautiful Sufi song...The Ocean refuses no river.

  6. I love that you drew a card to see what awaits the Knight, and what a card. Love what Bev said, too, about having to do something creative with that energy once you get to the Empress. Like you, though, I also see her as the nurturing, supportive Goddess, who loves us no matter our quest, no matter the road we follow :)
