Eight of Scrolls – Illusion

Chrysalis Eight of Scrolls Illusion Holly SierraFor today I've drawn the Eight of Scrolls (Swords), from the Chrysalis Tarot. A far less glooming depiction than we find on a more Rider Waite based Eight of Swords. Here we see an Egyptian visionary with her Crystal ball gazing at eight pieces of shredded scroll.  She is hovering over a camel in the desert, a symbol a endurance.
This camel makes you wonder, how long you have been carrying your obstructing, fragmented stories through your emotional desert. With each step they alter, cause for more fear, anxiety, stress and illusions. Because most of the time we tend to fill in the gaps with negative self talk, worries and doom. This card urges you to enter the tent of the visionary, where she will guide you to gather the pieces and with focus and heartfelt intent and to see  the content of the entire scroll for what it really is.
This is like a bucket of water for the camel; a relief, a moment of rest, of freedom and letting go.
Then the visionary gives you a new blank scroll to write down your story, so whenever you doubt or are tempted to add preconceived notions and misinterpretation you can write down what you really know to be true
Today I am going to I consciously check if my thoughts and assumptions, are based on truth or illusions and journal about it.

  1. Thank you for sharing!!! I just got this deck this week and last night was focusing on the 8 of Scrolls!!! And had the same interpretation!!! I love this deck and I'm not sure if I will be using it to read for cosmic seekers, just yet anyway!!!

    1. Well that is a coincidence! It is rather a challenging deck. For me anyway! I think maybe is it wise to first get familiar with it yourself, since there a lot of deviations from the RW tarot. Especially the court cards are very different.:)

  2. I once had a therapist tell me to test my thoughts for truth by looking for the evidence. If the facts didn't back up what I thought was true, then chances were I was operating from an expectation or assumption and not reality.

    1. This does remind me a bit of the four questions of Byron Katie.
And yes we all seem to have a tendency to distort reality I guess.:)

  3. I really like this post Ellen. Definitely love this card. Lots to think about and insightful. Hmmm who is the Egyptian visionary? Maybe she is us? That still quiet voice within.
Reality can be distorted by panic which comes out in all it's it's 'delightful' forms. That's why they say panic kills. I sure learned this lesson when I took SCUBA.
Panic may not kill us physically, but it sure does kill our creative energy, and our ability to see with clarity.
It's a wonderful thing we can start over and change our stories.

    1. That is the beauty about being human: having the possibility to have a fresh start in the morning; every day if we need to. We change so much in such a short time. The me from today isn't the one form a week ago so why should we carry all those shattered fragments with us. That is why I love to start in a new journal! :)

    2. A new journal yes! I got a brand new one that is a sketch book for Christmas as a gift. It's a special one to me, and another one, which is small but just a lovely, that I think I am going to write down my Sutras that Deepak Chopra talks about in his book The Path To Love.

  4. True...so true. I'm certain I'd be completely mad if I didn't have a journal to write in. But God help the person who reads them...they'll surely die of boredom! Lol

  5. Just beautiful, Ellen! I love that idea of going into the seer's tent, gathering all the pieces to see them in a new light, and leaving with a clean scroll to write upon :) For me, today, this card is a good reminder not to be stopped by my preconceived ideas, and to recognise the unity behind the apparent diversity...

    1. Thanks Chloe. I can imagine how fear and uncertainty can color your thinking but in the end it all comes down on trusting who you are and what you stand for and be at peace with it.

  6. This is a nice card, I agree! It's quite empowering to take time to sit and really pay attention to what fears or worries you're carrying along with you, and then determine which are baseless, and which you may be able to minimize through appropriate action.
