Prince of Pentacles – Get my feet back on the ground

Goddess Tarot Prince of Pentacles
For today I've drawn again a courtcard . This time it is the Prince (Knight) of Pentacles. He is a prince from India. The suit of Pentacles from this deck is associated with the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of abundance and prosperity. This is the suit of the element earth, where we plant our seeds in the soil, where things are getting done. This prince has come along to remind us not only to seek spiritual growth with a Swords or Cups mentality but also in being present in the moment with everything you do. Staying grounded is such an important thing to do when you are on a spiritual journey.
He is reliable, trustworthy and practical. What can be more healing than the stability of our daily activities to feel connected to life itself and everyone/everything around us. Cooking, cleaning, taking care of our children and also making art, walking the dog and so forth. This prince is teaching us when everything seems uncertain and questionable, keeping our hands busy is most of the time a perfect remedy. It is also a good habit to appreciate what you've achieved after the day is done.

Affirmation: Today I am going to do my chores and activities mindfully and I will be grateful for what I have accomplished.

  1. Usually when I do chores, my mind is not with what I'm doing, but where I want to be when I finish. Yet on those rare occasions when I do them mindfully, paying attention to details, I don't dread them and I seem to finish them faster. :)

    1. I have to be aware of my inner chit chat too, all the time. OMG I wish she would shut up sometimes by herself!!!
Cooking seems to be a lot easier when I am mindful; less burned edges and no pots boiling over :D

  2. I totally agree! The times when I approach chores in a mindful way are the times when they don't seem so onerous. I also find that, when I'm experiencing too much mental chatter, doing something which isn't too intellectually engaging has a very quieting effect - as long as it is performed in a mindful way!

    1. Hi Halcyon Welcome to my blog!
Yes sometimes I choose an activity just for calming my mind. I've noticed crocheting Granny squares works because you ave to keep count :)

    2. Hi Ellen
Thank you! I've been following your blog for a while now and find what you write here really resonates with me. I'm a weaver and spinner and find spinning particularly meditative:)

    3. O, I envy you. I used to spin too. I still have a beautiful Louet spinning wheel from when I was 16 years old. Sadly I've had three neck hernia's which has caused nerve damage in my right hand fingers so spinning is not an option anymore. but I do remember how calming and soothing it can be.

  3. This is a good message for me today, Ellen. After three weeks of summer-school-art-teaching, I am back to sewing. I seem to have forgotten so many bits and bobs and keep making silly mistakes. I keep wanting to be doing anything but my orders but I know I have to forge on. Just looking at the fabric that I have just sewn together, I noticed how beautiful and calming the apple greens were, which makes sense of your quote for me, regarding accomplishment and being mindful.

    1. Thanks Steve!
ha ha I remember now this is your "Work Card"
How nice to hear you teach art. Do you teach all kinds of art or something in specific?

  4. I drew this card yesterday! I also need to be reminded of living mindfully. I can totally lose myself in art (crochet and jewellery making) but eating can pass in an (unhealthy) blur. An oracle card I drew today was 'Slow and Steady' so I'm still trying to keep this card in mind :-)

    1. Same here. I have the unhealthy habit to eat with my tablet at hand or while watching the TV :(
Since two days I am trying to eat silently (and mindfully) without distractions only when I am asked something. I didn't know pasta could taste that good. :)
ps "Slow and Steady" from the Enchanted Map Oracle?

  5. This is a beautiful deck Ellen.
I think one of the most grounding things I do is to making bread.
I love fine needle work and find this very meditative. Once I spent the whole year making crocheted. I certainly appreciated having accomplished making several beautiful ones for my tables. I think at some point I thought I was turning into my grandmother! It was a rough year then but crocheting kept my mind off things.

Making bread is for me too on of the most grounding and fulfilling activities in the kitchen. And smell when it is ready.....

    1. I love your last sentence. Maintaining my confidence and inner calm is so important when I'm trying to figure things out. Not being tempted to run to the finish line.
This deck has amazed me tremendously.Even the court cards are highly approachable. :D
