Today’s card, Celtic Owl from the Chrysalis
Tarot, is the equivalent of the Hanged Man. There is nothing hanging in this picture but
we do see a beautiful owl against a starry night sky. Under his wings he is
keeping an interwoven Celtic knot. So what is this card all about? The keyword
is Rebirth. The message from this card is trying to connect to everybody and
everything in the Universe and to experience the oneness of the entre creation.
Even though we cannot see it doesn’t mean it isn’t true. The owl is a creature who can find his way in
the dark of night with ease. When we have the courage to follow Owl into the unknown unconscious realms and to surrender to his wisdom, we can
be transformed and be more receptive to see
all of creation in a more holistic way. This is a long-term process which
demands patience, the art of letting go, imagination and regularly contemplation.
When we are
determined to follow Owl he will teach us what every great teacher has taught
over the centuries: “ Everything is connected ; We are one” and how to
sacrifice our ego and old ways of thinking to this idea and to find the bliss of enlightenment.
“But I'll
tell you what hermits realize. If you go off into a far, far forest and get
very quiet, you'll come to understand that you're connected with everything.”
Alan Watts
At first I couldn't connect to this image at all (though I love owls). But then I realized that the Hanged Man sees things from a new perspective, and in a way owls do the same - they can see in the darkest night!
ReplyDeleteI heard the author is preparing a companion book to go with this deck, which I think would be very useful.
It was a difficult for one for me too. The LWB is very clear but a guide book would be ever so welcome. For me ithis is not a deck to do large readings with. First I would have to get more familiar with all the cards of the deck. However, for one card readings and contemplation it is a great deck
DeleteTomorrow I will be reading with a more RW based deck. Just for the necessity of breathing out.. :D..
Alan Watts speaks the truth. We often think or plan on leaving things behind, yet all our prior experiences are what becomes that something new. New shape, new vision, but formed from our past. There is gold there too!
ReplyDeleteI agree Sharyn! I wouldn't want to change my past one bit. because it has lead me to where and who I am to day

ReplyDeleteI love this card and relate to it very much! I love everything Celtic and had a long time passion making Celtic knots as part of my art work. The Owl makes me think of the Athene's owl reflecting clarity of vision and how it is able to see and hunt in the dark. The Celtic knot looks like the infinity knot representing the cycle of life.
DeleteYes it does resemble that knot. I like the Norse and the Celtic knotwork a lot. Both have their own signature but they do look alike. I think it is amazing if you can draw them.
DeleteI am very fond of owl symbolism. I guess Athene was the first goddess I really liked. I was was only 14 then.
Neat Ellen. Yes when I see Celtic knots I want to make them! Athene she's one of favs too!
ReplyDeleteAnother thing about owls, they can turn their heads up to 270º, so they can look behind themselves while still moving forward. That's another "different perspective"… May you feel that sense of connection, if only for an instant, flying on the breath of life.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kerry for this addition. It really makes a lot of sense
DeleteAnd thank you also for the beautiful wish. Breathing in, breathing out
:) We've both reminded one another to breath today!
DeleteBeautiful card.I'm enjoying your take on this deck.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cher it is a great deck to work with but after a while I need to take a break from it and spend some time with a RW kind of deck.:D
