After having pulled rather challenging cards the last two day, I decided to draw today’s card
with a positive question in mind: “What
can I do right now, in this moment that will bring me pleasure and also
positively impact my future” (Sasha Graham). I’ve written about
the origin of this question in a previous post.
How happy I
was with my decision when I pulled the Five of Pentacles; an obvious example of
a again a challenging card. It felt almost as if the tarot was pulling a prank on
me. In this depiction we see an elderly couple sitting under a make-do shelter
covered with snow. This card is about deprivation, poverty and physical, mental or material hardship.
“But this
card does also imply that comfort can be found in such situations in partners,
friends or unexpectedly compassionate strangers. The card invites us to look
for help and to accept help that is offered to us”(guidebook). So that is the positive
side of this card.
In answer to my question; I will look for how I
can be compassionate to others and how I
can try to gracefully accept offered help. The last part is the most difficult because
I usually want to do everything myself so it will good for me to learn to depend
on others too.
This morning somebody friendly let me cut in line at the grocery store and when I came home my girls offered to put the groceries. So it was a good start of my day
I love it how the question has determined the atmosphere of this reading J

Today I am grateful
and accepting for a helping hand, either mentally or physically
It is a sign of emotional maturity when we can allow others to help us. I find it much easier to be the helper than the "helpee." :) The tenderness of the people in the Anna K. card makes me think of the song Annie Lennox & Al Green sang called "Put a Little Love in Your Heart."
ReplyDeleteI love the song. Never heard of it before?!?
DeleteBecause of this tenderness this is one my favorite Five of Pentacles'. In some of my other decks the depiction of the Five of P. has also two figures clinging together in times of hardship. They show that same kind feeling as this card.
Lovely post, Ellen - it can be odd accepting help, can't it? A long time ago I was told that accepting help is honouring the other person's giving, which is a lovely way to see it. Adore the AnnaK too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Margo. That is very helping thought you shared here. it is like accepting a compliment; it can be so hard but in doing so you'll acknowledge the feelings of the person giving too
DeleteIt must have been a wise person telling you this :D
What a beautiful twist to the reading, I'm so glad you focused on the positives! And glad, too, that your day got off to such a good start in terms of accepting help. It may be hard, but it is a gift to the other person, too - allowing them to feel good for being of service :)
ReplyDeleteYes that is exactly it I am always delighted when I can help somebody and even more when I receive a big smile afterwards. So accepting help with a grateful smile is indeed lovely gift to my benefactors :)
