Day3 The source of my greatest fear
The knight of Cups from the Deviant Moon Tarot:
He keeps on plodding along; always trying to please everybody but himself. Never satisfied always searching for the pearl in the shell, hoping one day it will be good enough. If he is going to continue to pour from his cup because he feels obligated it will run dry very soon. When will he know he can find the pearl in his own heart and that he is good enough just the way he is right now... and that his cup will keep running over when it is filled by a self loving heart?
I was reading the Shambhala Sun magazine last night, and almost all of it was devoted to self-compassion. Basically it stated that studies have shown we have more joy and satisfaction when we are compassionate with ourselves. Yet (and I do this all the time), we constantly seek it outside ourselves. It doesn't have anything to do with treating ourselves as much as it does learning to be gentle and comforting, much as we would to a hurting child.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard not to experience the joy of a treat as genuine love. Maybe the act of giving ourselves something is a door to self love and compassion. I know I used to buy presents for everyone but me. So at first buying for instance decks was a new experience for me and now I feel I have a need something deeper and more fulfilling. Although a nice gift is always fun :)
DeleteBeing really gentle with ourselves is one of the hardest things...
What an intuitive post, well done. Part of what we need to do is stoke up our ego, it is a necessary part of our living life. I'm sure thee and me won't get to Donald Trump sized egos :) Please avert your eyes from our very embarrassing political goings on.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what Bev would about stoking up our ego
DeleteShe has just written a post about "the asshole" :D
:D I would say the ego isn't the enemy - we need it to deal with our day to day lives. But it occasionally takes over as CEO instead of being content as secretary. :)
DeleteHe's says it much better than I did:

I am going to read this and I love the CEO/secretary metaphor :D That's one I am going to remember!!
DeleteJust read it, and this part really struck a chord with me
Delete"This is the deep truth of the dharma: that by making friends with who we are, we awaken to our true nature. But Buddhism is practical as well as profound, because we have to start where we are."
This is the pearl....:)
Some wonderful questions there, Ellen! That Deviant Moon Knight of Cups is so armoured, afraid his emotion will make him vulnerable - so sad. And how true, that we must start where we are :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Chloe I feel if he doesn't take of this armor soon, it will grow on him like a second skin :)
DeleteI love how you've placed him in a shell. He appears to be rising out of it, out of the very place a pearl begins. Looking without for what's essentially within. Is it Eliot who says in the end is our beginning...
ReplyDeleteWe shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
I love how you always seems to find the perfect quote or poem to share with us
DeleteThank you Rose!!!
Not only are your card and reflection beautiful, honest, and thoughtful, but I love how you mirrored the card image by using the abalone shell and crystal :) How are you finding this deck? HUGS!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Olivia!
DeleteI adore this deck and I hardly can imagine it scared me once :D
Beautiful write-up, Ellen!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Zanna!
