Laguz and the Hermit – Follow your bliss

Original Rider Waite Tarot The Hermit, Runes, Laguz
The question for my Daily was: what can I do to follow my bliss and live authentically?
The rune to show me the way is Laguz (Water) this is the rune of intuition, our unconscious, emotions and feelings, introspection….all the attributes we assign to the element of water.
A very appropriate rune to pull because introspection is a doorway to our true self. When we are opening  up to what we feel and being brave enough to fully embrace who are, we might find our hearts desire on the bottom of our inner lake. Meditating, walking in nature; spending quality time with ourselves is the perfect way to discover what make us really happy.
When I drew my tarot card from The Original Rider Waite Tarot I felt like I've just got a beautiful gift from my deck. I think you all know the feeling when you pull a card and it is almost too good to be true.
The Hermit will be our guide to our inner realm. He will shine his light over all the parts of ourselves we have forgotten, neglected  and/or denied for so long. Let’s go on a treasure hunt with the Hermit. Dust of those beautiful, unique aspects of ourselves and shine our light over them to see how gorgeous we truly are.

Follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.”  ~Joseph Campbell

  1. Your post reminded me of scavenger hunts we did as kids; we had a list of odd items (bottle cap, 1979 penny, etc.) that we would go door to door searching the neighborhood for in teams. I suppose I see the Hermit on a solitary search but with a different list. :D Lovely post, Ellen.

    1. Thanks Bev! The most exciting thing about this search is; The Hermit doesn't know what is on his list. He only knows as soon as he finds it

  3. I love the Hermit. It reminds me always of the story in Women Who Run With The Wolves, the Three Golden Hairs. The old man finds the dwelling with the old woman. She nurses him back to health rocking and comforting him all night long. During the night he begins to get younger and younger in age until he is a baby and then runs jumps off her lap, looks back giving her a big smile, and then runs away.
The old woman had plucked three golden hairs from the child's head before he'd jumped down from her lap, and thrown them into the fire.

The story is about regaining our focus after loosing it, knowing what to throw away, and the hair is symbolic of thought. I did a painting of this, and am going to give it to my friend who is going through that dark night of the soul like the old man had experienced, before finding the cottage in the woods with the old woman, who'd saved him from certain death..

    1. Thank you you for reminding me of that story. I am sure your friend will be so happy with this painting. I always see the dark Goddess, the Wise One, represented in those old crones who live deep in the forest in those simple little cabins with their herbs and cauldron and lots of books waiting for a lost soul to knock on their door.:)

  4. Ah yes, taking time to swim in the waters of our own being. As you say, what treasures may lie beneath the surface? I'm planning a meditation on just that subject tomorrow morning :)
