Maker Two – Responsibility

Tarot of the Sidhe Maker Two responsibility Emily Carding
For today I've drawn Maker Two ( Two of Pentacles) from the Tarot of the Sidhe by Emily Carding. Instead of the juggler trying to hold both of his pentacles in the air here we see an oak tree which has brought forth a Fey child with two acorns in his hands. The child is still attached to the tree by a navel cord. Two butterflies are flying in opposite directions and the sun is shining brightly.
For me this card is all about planting seeds: starting projects, committing to intentions and promises. But besides that it is also about being responsible for these seeds. Planting them is not enough; they have to be tended: fed, watered and loved. When a new project becomes a boring chore it is destined to wither and die. Without love and passion, seeds won’t grow strongly. Of course we all experience lack of these motivating feelings from time to time. Then maintaining the seed can be  enough for a while but the true responsibility in my opinion lies in to love and care for your "babies".
For me this is not always easy. I am a passionate beginner of projects but most of the time I find it difficult to keep working on them and even more to finish them. It is almost a miracle I am still blogging after a whole year. Painting regularly  in my art journal is much more difficult. It can take weeks before I pick up my dusted journal which I had intended to work in al least three times a week.  Yesterday I've joined the 365-30 lists Face book group. Only to receive the monthly list subjects, which I want to write daily  in my new Eldori. For now I am excited but I wonder for how long I can manage to keep writing those lists. J
Yes our seeds can vary in importance and need of support but when tended well they return your loving attention with fulfillment and pride and a sense of self worth

  1. Nurturing the seeds we planted is such an apt description of seeing through the projects we start and the obligations we sign up for. But I look at your "Eldori" and think about your research, gathering of resources and attempt at creating your own special notebook. And I see that yes, the result IS worth all the work! :)

    1. Ha ha! Yes Bev that was a huge project. Not only to gather my resources etc but also to overcome my insecurity and fear of failure. But is was worth it indeed!
And now, filling it up will be the next challenge :)

  2. Ellen, I love this card and the acorn hands. Seeds, yes this has been a theme for me too.
One of the most significant lessons I learned returning to University from my wonderful Professors, was the importance of doing one creative, regular, habit every day. This sure helped me enormously. But I still struggle with my projects because of my all or nothing mind set over the years. That's a big accomplishment Ellen to have reached a year of blogging. It will be seven years in 2015 I started my art blog and this year just starting my Tarot blog. My art blog truly was my salvation and I grew and learn so much. It has been SO worth while one day at a time! Keep at it Ellen you are good at it! And besides you have a following public now!!! <3

    1. Hi my dear friend. Thank you. this means a lot to me Although it is getting easier to write in English I still feel a bit insecure about it.
Blogging for my public :D I guess it is the support of you guys what keeps me going. I love sharing ideas and insights and well lot of other stuff too
One creative regular habit. For now it is definitely writing. I do hope I will feel free enough to add some sort of visual art form in my artjournal though. That is a seed which needs a lot of care and nurturing ( and patience :D)

  3. Hmm, I wonder whether one thing is to break projects up into more manageable bits. Then, doing those bits is each a success, rather than a bigger thing which doesn't get finished and feels like a failure. For example, if you make a plan to paint twice this week, rather than three times every week for the year, then you can have a success that is more immediate, and not beat yourself up if next week doesn't feel like a painting week… :D

  4. Ah, I know these feelings, Ellen.

You know, I used to relate to the Knight of Wands. I started everything and finished nothing. You saw my many started decks already, didn't you?

But a few years ago, I finished 78 cards of the Fragments of an Illusion Tarot. Something unlocked when I did that. Since then, I have made a hundred or so bags and continue to sew. I am blogging after about seven years. I am now 17 cards away from finishing my silhouette tarot deck. It takes perseverance and discipline. It's about chipping away, a bit at a time for me. I am better at completing stuff now because I know I can do it from experience.

I never thought I could change, but I identify with the Knight of Pentacles now.

    1. I remember you telling me how boring the Knight of Pentacles seemed to you in the past and how you connect to him so easily now. It was, if I remember correctly, when you had written about this Knight from the Hidden Realm
The main difficulty now is maybe to juggle which seedling needs your attention first :)
