Five of Water – Some things can’t be fixed

Vision Quest Tarot Five of Water Loss Vision Quest Tarot Ace of Earth

Today’s card is the Five of Water from the Vision Quest Tarot. The caption of this card is “Loss”. This card is all about loss and grief and how we deal with it.  In the beginning stages of loss, the only pots we are able to see are the broken ones  and  we feel like life is slipping away and there is nothing we can do to prevent this. But gradually things are going to shift and we notice the two pots that are still whole. Now this is a crucial moment in our grieving process: are we going to keep focusing on what we have lost; trying to hold on what is forever gone and are we going to let those wounds fester and  devour our energy or are we trying to be grateful for the pots which are still standing upright. This process can take a lot of time  and it is often an ongoing  back and forth movement but if we are willing and unrelenting, we will notice the time we are spending with the two pots filled with water will increase. What will happen if we keep focusing on these pots?. I drew the Ace of Earth. This tells me that we will be able to embrace the energy of the Ace of Earth again and of Life itself.  After our dark night of the soul a new day is waiting eagerly for us. Look at this multicolored corncob. So many possibilities and so many dreams still to come true. We will able to focus one new projects find new passions and become whole again. Not the same person as we were before but whole and maybe a bit wiser…

  1. That is so important, to be able to grieve but also to come to acceptance for what has happened and gratitude for what still is. I think that is the grounding nature of that Ace that keeps us out of our fantasy world and firmly in reality.

    1. Yes, it has helped a lot me to quit the "what if", the "guilt" and the "regret" stories which were constantly replaying in my mind. Nothing is as healthy as keeping your hands busy and let your mind follow what you're doing

  2. idk about those cups being missed opportunities but more like opportunities or choices we were not happy about. Since they are still right side up it is like someone kicked them and lost the gift or possibility that was presented, just leaked away. I like the ear of rainbow corn. So much diversity and wonder in our world; that when we only want what we want, we miss so much more.

    1. maybe that is why so many people adhere to the notion of reincarnation in one way or the other: one lifetime is just to short to experience everything we need or want :)

  3. This deck is so beautifully emotive! It was the first one to really get me into semi-illustrated pips. That multiplicity of possibility in the rainbow corn, framed by such an amaxing sky, offers so much... :)

    1. Its has become one of my favorite deck pretty soon! For me semi illustrated pips often do stir my intuition enough to read the cards relatively easy (just like the Wild Unknown)

  4. Beautiful combination of cards. The 5 of Cups/Water can be elusive sometimes - a quiet sadness that lives below the surface of everyday life. I like the Ace of Earth as a way to draw attention to it - make it concrete and defined so that it can be properly acknowledged and addressed. I agree that there is a back-and-forth quality to working with mourning. That is such an important aspect of the card, I think. Lovely post!!
