Yesterday I
went shopping with M. to our local New
Age Shop. I felt in the mood to look for one or two crystals as an addition to
my Crystal Family. I do have quite a nice collection of crystals. Some tumbled,
some rough and some bracelets and pendants but just like collecting tarot decks, there is
always room for another addition.
A while ago I was so clumsy to break my Rose Quartz donut and I really missed having a
smooth larger piece of Rose Quartz. It is my go to stone for Self Love.
The
other crystal I've been looking for was
a Snowflake Obsidian. This is a crystal which is great for shadow work and
balancing the darker en lighter aspects of yourself. This stone is softer and
more gentle to work with than a Black Obsidian.
It reminds me of the Goddess Holle, a
Germanic Mother goddess who encompasses an all round image of the Feminine
Divine: from Spring goddess to death goddess and everything in between. Her memory
is kept alive in the fairy tale of mother
Holle who shakes her feather bed to let it snow on earth.
I did
find both of these crystals which made me so very happy. Last night I let them
sit on my altar in an Abalone shell with a few Citrine tumbled rocks and Clear Quartz
chips to cleanse them . So today they are really mine and all ready to be
making their first appearance on my blog.
I've found a lovely little wooden treasure chest where they fit in together perfectly. Our little gnome is taking his task to protect them very seriously.....
Maybe the break was proof you have progressed, outgrown the old one? I think I'd find a special place in nature and return it to the earth.
ReplyDeleteI have a big clear mixing bowl of "dad's pocket rocks" on my dining table. He picked up pretty rocks everywhere and when he had enough he put them in the rock polisher. They are so beautiful, each common but special in it's own right.
I haven't though about that! I think a lot of "common"stones are very beautiful I have some river stones, collected on my holidays in France. They are just as smooth as crystals.
DeleteSuch a stone collection must be a lovely memory of your dad. Mine collected chestnuts. I still have one he found just before he died and somehow it is just as beautiful as the day he found it.
I'm a rock lover, and those two are lovely. Had to grin when I saw the "protector" of the stones. :) I like the idea of a Mother goddess who represents both death and renewal - sounds like Nature herself.
ReplyDeleteHe is always so proud when I give him something important to do :D
DeleteI think she is the embodiment of nature. She is both Skye as Underworld goddess. So she rules everything which is needed for life to flourish.
The name 'Snowflake Obsidian' inspires the poet in me but the stone's purpose intrigues my inner healer. Have you done any work with Christine Jette's, 'Tarot Shadow Work' book?
ReplyDeleteMother Holle was one of my son's favourite fairy tales when he was younger. We still have the beautifully illustrated book it was in. Thanks for the little trip down nostalgia lane.
Hi Rose No I don't but I do have this book. I just never came around to it or maybe it wasn't the right time for me yet
DeleteYour welcome. It is a lovely fairy tale both harsh and just like all fairy tales are
Beautiful! I love to see them nestled happily in your little box. And your altar glows with warmth and beauty.
ReplyDeleteThanks Olivia. I am carrying this little box every where I go now so I can hold them whenever I feel like it. In the evening they return to my altar to "rest".
DeleteRose quartz is wonderful! I used to have pieces of it in each quarter around the room where I had my altar. I haven't done that since we moved, but this was an interesting reminder. I love what you say about the snowflake obsidian being a softer way to approach shadow work. I second Rose, Jette's Tarot Shadow Work is an excellent book :)
ReplyDeleteI do have some rough pieces of Rose Quartz. You can buy them very easily at a garden centre and much cheaper then in a new age shop.
DeleteAfter both your recommendations I think I will definitely pick up Jette's book. :D
