The day after Halloween

Halloween/Samhain in Holland. Not so spectacular as in other part of the world..But we have managed to have our own little festivities at home
In the afternoon my youngest daughter and I have been making a hug pumpkin cake. We have used our own muffin recipe (With raisins cinnamon apples oatmeal and sunflower seeds) and filled  a large pumpkin mold with the dough. This was the first time we’ve tried this so it was a very exciting moment when we had to remove the mold……

It tasted beautiful as it looks in this picture. I am sure we’ll do this more often.
After the baking we sat down to carve a pumpkin. Well my daughter did the carving and I was watching her being crafty. (Notice the matching nailcolor J)

When our jack-o-lantern was finished he got a beautiful spot in the windowsill:

And last but not least to our great surprise, in the evening when it was all already dark outside, the doorbell rang and there were three children all dressed up for trick or treat. Luckily we had some candy to give them. This was was the first time in my life ever I had trick or treaters at my door J
So slow but surely  the spirit of Halloween is hovering over the Low Lands…..

  1. The cake turned out beautifully - and looks yummy! :) This is the first year I've had trick-or-treaters (besides the grandsons who came into town to show off their Dallas Cowboy costumes) in quite a few years. Here a lot of churches and other organizations have "festivals" to keep the kids off the streets. One little girl (looked about or 5) showed up looking like a cross between a cat and a fairy. As I handed her the candy I told her she was a really cute kitty. She huffed and said, "I am NOT a kitten, I am a bat princess!" Made my night! :D

    1. The trick or treaters did give a special feel to this evening. I did enjoy it so much. I don't have grandchildren yet, but that would be even more special:celebrating a holiday with little kids around.:)

  2. That cake looks so beautiful, and is making me hungry (haven't had breakfast yet!!). It also reminds me that I totally forgot to carve our pumpkins yesterday!!! Well we have family in town to visit and this week has been so crazy and full of activity. It's nice that you had the trick-or-treaters at your door :)

  3. My little home town (4 blocks long, population 1500) shuts off the main street to autos from 5PM to 8PM and every business has treats and many provide street entertainment.

I think parents are crazy to teach kids it is ok to take candy from a stranger...
actions speak louder than words, and telling a kid to never accept anything from a stranger, and then taking them out to do it... crazy old world

  6. Here, trick-or-treaters only come if you put up halloween decorations, so maybe your pumpkin drew them in :) The cake looks fabulous - so cute as well as delicious! Happy Belated Halloween ;D
