Six of Cups – Adapting our Memories

The Wild Unknown Tarot Six of Cups
Today’s card is the Six of Cups from The Wild Unknown Tarot with the keywords: Memories, Childhood and Joy. A very fitting card for me, since I’ve visited my mom last weekend.
In this version of the Six of Cups we see a Fir tree with a stunning, intricate and colorful root system. On the surface this Fir looks like any other Fir in the forest but when we look more closely, each Fir has developed in his own unique way. His roots and his trunk could tell us so much more about his growth throughout the years.
And the same thing is true for us. Our memories, happy and sad ones alike, are partly cause of who we are today. But memories are not stagnant, they change when we change they way we feel about them. It is not the exact memory which determines how  we respond to  whatever life throws at us but the way we relate to those memories. Our perception might change over the years. Memories laden with guilt can  become filled with acceptance and compassion. And so we grow new roots each day and strengthen old ones, or cut them off from our energy flow so they wither and be forgotten.
With this notion I try to approach the Holidays. Traditions, childhood memories and expectations are not stagnant. They are truly alive and can become part of something new and fresh Our personal stories, even the sad ones, can be retold from a more empowering perspective.
Let’s fill our memories with Compassion and Joy

  1. We all have roots that are colored by emotional memories. But as you said, it is still up to us to grow into the kind of person we want to be!

  3. Thank goodness our memories are not stagnant. Some traditions and memories are not so great to hang on too, but some are sweet and good. I love making new traditions and memories.

    1. This reminds me of a quote I once read: "The best things about memories is making them."

  4. I love what you say about memories changing, and how we can fill old memories with love and acceptance. That card image is amazing! I see the vibrancy of our roots, too. Sometimes, it is easy to think of the past as dull, especially with old black-and-white photos. Good to be reminded that it has so much to offer us, a wealth of different ideas and memories :)

    1. It is so magical how cards can change ideas about so many aspect of our life. Our mind is wonderful thing. Did you know we even fill in the gaps (fantasy) of our memories in order to create a logical story.

  5. That maybe your Christmas Tree, and all the colorful memories laying in the roots of the tree are all the ornaments that you have collected over the years that bring those wonderful memories to the fore and decorate your tree and your Tree of Life. Take an extra ornament out into the woods and hang on a tree. May you experience the wonder and delight of the Season.

    1. Thank you my dear Carolyn. What a lovely idea to make an offering of a Christmas ornament. One day I will inherit my childhood ornaments for my tree. I hope it will not come any time soon but I consider it a privilege to look after them when the time comes
      Hugs
