Self - Who are you right now?

Dreams of Gaia Tarot Self
Today’s card is “Self” from the Dreams of Gaia Tarot and this card is all about self realization, discovering and accepting who you are and trying to live an authentic life.
Our idea of Self is (thank God/dess) ever changing and always evolving. For me this is beautifully represented by the roses in full bloom, the butterfly and the flying doves. We aren’t the  same as we were ten, five or one year ago and even not the same as we were last month, last week or yesterday. This might give us some insecurity about not knowing who we really are today but what we can be sure of  that we are the result of our past notions of Self.  Not only of our own previous perceptions of who we were but also who others told us we were (right or wrong) I “know” I am stubborn because my mother told me so frequently when I wanted to do things my own way.  Maybe if  she’d praised me for being determined, I would have had a slightly different idea of “Self”?
So this card encourages me to sit with “who am I right now?” and find out what is still true and what is outdated or hearsay . Only when we have established and accepted who we are today, we can choose intentionally who we want to become tomorrow.
Visualizing our future self will give us some idea of who we want to become and when we are actively involved in becoming who we are meant to be, we will be able to unlock the door to our inner sanctuary called “Self” where we will find fulfillment and peace.

  1. a bit on the same page today. "past notions of Self" I've been embroiled in 'who am I if I'm not a quilter' runs through the background of my mind since I've developed the eyeballs that bend everything. I still don't have an answer, but I'm no longer in a blind panic so count that as progress toward the answer.

    1. I can relate to how difficult it is to have to redefine yourself after a life changing situation. We only can take this journey one step at the time

  2. I think the ego-self is a cobbled together version based on what we like, don't like, and the relationships we have. But I do think there is another Self (buddha nature), that is not affected or created by these externals. Finding that Self can be a lifetime adventure!

    1. Is the buddha nature the Self after enlightenment?

    2. Enlightenment is simply waking up to the buddha nature (Self or Atman as the Hindus call it) within us - it's already there in everyone. It is seeing reality without attaching all our likes and dislikes. That space that holds it all.

    3. And I think this Buddha nature also free of labels imposed to us by others or ourselves. So in my case I am neither stubborn nor determined anymore. I just am....

  3. Your take on your draw of the SELF card harkens back to your Nine of Cups the other day and even your Four of Air. At our core we are who we are but life gives us opportunities to make adjustments. Stay determined on your quest of self realization.

    1. Maybe the whole deck is basically about this one subject.
It does seem to be a theme for my right now, Perhaps because I am experiencing a lot of pain and I don't want to identify myself with that

    2. I think it is the energy you are drawing to yourself. Remember you have the Counsel of Queens to help.

    3. Yes that counsel... after having read your comment I put all four of them on my altar as a visual reminder!
      Thank you so much Carolyn!!

  4. I think the self that parents tell us we are might have more to do with who they are than who we are. Determined is good :)

    1. Yes children can be like mirrors of unfulfilled wishes for their parents
I do think most of them (including myself) do the best they can but make mistakes all the time :)

    2. I agree. Part of becoming an adult is realising parents are not perfect but like all of us doing the best they can with the resources they have and loving them still

    3. In the end there is just love without any expectations. (not always easy)
